How do I get there?
The walk and run will begin and end on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between 13th Street, NW and 12th Street, NW. Please allow enough time to pick up your race packet and to get to the line-up area prior to the 9:00 am start time.
Where is the nearest metro?
The Metro opens at 8:00 am on race day. There are a number of stops that are close to the Start/Finish line. On the Blue and Orange Lines, Federal Triangle is .3 miles from the start and on the Red, Blue and Orange Lines, Metro Center is .2 miles from the start. Please, be sure to start for the race site early, especially if you are coming from the outlying stops. Factor in enough time for the train, plus check-in or warm-up.
What time does the 5k race start?
The official 5k race begins at 9:00am for timed participants and 9:15 for untimed participants.
What time is the Little Turkey One Mile Fun Run?
The Fun Run begins at 8:30am. To participate, each child and/or adult must be registered for the Little Turkey One Mile Fun Run. They will receive an untimed bib (you can pick these up at the untimed packet pick-up tent) and a medal at the finish line.
What time does the race finish?
The course roads will reopen to drivers at 10:30am. However, most participants are finished by 10:00am.
Is there parking available?
Street parking will be available on the streets to the north of Pennsylvania Avenue. As it is a holiday, time limits and meter fees will not apply.
Can we bring a stroller?
Yes, but due to safety concerns, strollers are not allowed to line up alongside runners. Please remain in the very back of the pack for your own safety.
Can we bring a pet?
Yes! We love our furry friends! However, due to safety concerns, participants must keep their pets on a leash throughout the entire event. Also, participants with pets are not allowed to line up alongside runners. Please remain in the very back of the pack for your own safety.
Do participants wear costumes?
Since this is a turkey trot, we encourage our participants to dress up as turkeys. We discourage our participants from dressing up as Native Americans i.e. wearing face paint, head dresses, feathers, etc. as these have distinct meanings for each tribe and nation.
Do I need to pay for my kid?
Children aged 10 and under can be registered for the Little Turkey One Mile Fun Run. This registration also allows them to participate in the 5K. If you child would like to be timed for the 5K they must register as a timed participant (registration fee of $40). Children in strollers do not need to register for the race.
Is there a place to keep our bags?
Yes. We will have a bag check on Freedom Plaza.
How early do we need to arrive?
We recommend that participants arrive as early as possible as lines to pick up registration materials in time for the official race start at 9:00am for timed participants and 9:15am for untimed participants. We suggest giving yourself at least an hour before the race start as we are expecting 10,000 participants.
Can I register for more than one person?

Will the Little Turkey One Mile Fun Run be timed? Will results be posted?
During the Fun Run, there will be a large digital timer displayed for participants to keep track of their time. The Little Turkey One Mile Fun Run will not be officially timed and no timed bibs are available for this event. Therefore, no results will be posted for the Little Turkey One Mile Fun Run.
Can children participate in the race and not the Little Turkey One Mile Fun Run?
Yes. Children can participate in the official 5k race as long as they are registered. Children age 10 and under, who do not want to be timed, can register for the Little Turkey One Mile Fun Run and participate in the 5K at a discounted price. Children age 10 and under, who would like to be timed, need to register as a timed participant of the 5K. Children 10 and older need to be registered as a timed or untimed participant of the 5K. Children in strollers do not need to register.
Is there a fee for the Little Turkey One Mile Fun Run?
Yes. Children age 10 and under need to register for the Little Turkey One Mile Fun Run for $15. They will receive an untimed bib (you can pick these up at the untimed packet pick-up tent or our pre-race packet pick-ups) and a medal at the finish line.
Can I run if I am signed up as an untimed participant?
Yes. You may run even if you are untimed, your time however will not be posted in the results.
Where are packet pickups and when?
Pre-Race Packet Pickup is available on the following days:

You can also pick up your race bib and t-shirt on race day. We recommend you arrive no later than 8am due to the likelihood of long lines.
What do I need for packet pickup?
If you are picking up for other people in addition to your own, please have their name, registration type and t-shirt size ready.
What do I need for the day of the race?
Please be prepared to tell staff your registration type and t-shirt size.
What is the terrain of the race like?
The course is flat and entirely paved.
Is the race handicap accessible?
Yes. We encourage all who would like to participate to come on out!
I left something at the race, who can I call about lost and found?
The Trot for Hunger staff will gather all remaining lost and found items and bring them back to SOME. Please contact the Trot for Hunger office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 202.797.8806 ext. 1131 to retrieve your belongings.
When will the race results be posted?
The race results will be posted within a few hours after the race on Thanksgiving Day. Check out the race results here.
